I'm back writing on this blog for the first time in 4 months. I was just reading some of my old posts reminding me of previous classes. I'm excited to get going with this new class. It sounds like we will be learning about some great web based technology tools. I've already learned about a lot of what's out there from previous classes that Louis taught so I'm interested to compare these tools to what I already know and use in school. I'm always looking for new and exciting websites to share with both staff and students and for me to use in my library skills class.
Using graphics could be beneficial to me in a few ways. I definitely could jazz up my web site for me school library with some graphics. I know the art teacher in my school is always looking for new ideas to use so I plan on introducing some to the graphics sites to her. The book is also interesting so far. It is almost more like a workbook with all the questions it asks along the way and provides great tools and learning activities.
I'm sure glad I'm a renter on days like these!!!

Hey Andy,
ReplyDeleteI was surprised when I saw your name on the class list. I hope that your new position is going well. I would imagine that your new position results in a lot of staff and students looking to you for tips on technology. I could definitely see utilizing these graphics programs for websites. What program would you use and why? Just out of curiosity what kind of things do you teach in your library skills class?
I too am always looking for new materials to use in the classroom. For me sometimes the problem is that there is too many to choose from. One site that I really like is www.wordle.net/create. Have you tried this one? I use it for descriptive writing, story mapping, brainstorming, vocabulary, or even as an incentive. My students really like the site, and by going directly to /create you eliminate any questionable material that may be on the home page.
ReplyDeleteJust this past week I was telling our long term library substitute that I would like to use some sort of comic maker for the some of the assignments that we usually have the students just do reports for. I know the kids hate standing in front of the class spewing out information that most of the others are not listening to. I used ToonDoo for my graphic, and it is exactly what I was thinking about. I really am hoping that I will be able to use this and other new tools that I am sure we will be exposed to in the next few weeks. Even though there is a ton of work in Louis's classes, I always come away with a wealth of new technologies to try.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to have library media specialists in this class - adds additional perspectives. I am fascinated by the radical changes in library science and the dichotomy of those who value the traditional system of actual books and documents versus those who have embraced the new information technology. Obviously, you have embraced modern library science by participating in this class, but I would be interested in your thoughts on the role of libraries today?
