Week 3

This week's main focus was on spreadsheets, in particular google spreadsheets. I found them to be very useful and handy. The recipe was a good way to implement using formulas and I like seeing all the different foods on the forum. I may have to try some of them out. I think the best part of google spreadsheets is the ability to share with anyone out there. I have started a google spreadsheet for my 9 pack of Brewer tickets that we're sharing as a group of friends and we're claiming games on it and keeping track of who is going to which games. In terms of at school, I was thinking about transferring my library budget spreadsheet to google to help me keep up to minute information on my financials.

I have had limited results in my district in terms of finding out about software purchasing. I finally heard back from our head tech guy and we talked for a little while about it. Basically people can pretty much get what they want, within reason, if they're using their own money. For larger district wide things, people make suggestions to him and he will eventually have the final say in the purchasing.

  1. First of all, I like what you are doing with your friends on google docs re:brewer's tickets--that's a great idea! Do you also track whose turn it is to buy the beer? lol
Do you use google docs at all as a library media specialist to communicate with the classroom teachers, for scheduling for example? I am interested in getting my staff set up with google docs for sharing resources but am getting push back on having another email account.I'd probably have more luck if I could build it into our current email system.

  2. I like how you are implementing spreadsheets into your everyday world. I also am getting a 9 pack. However, I am confused how you are using a spreadsheet to keep track of your 9 pack? Which pack did you pick? Also, I am glad to hear that you finally heard back from your school about software.

  3. I love the idea of using the spreadsheet to keep track of you and your friend's ticket purchase. nice. I've started using google spreadsheets to share professionally as well by laying out our history curriculum each semester in the spreadsheet so that all 3 teachers can suggest and edit different things they are teaching.

  4. I think we're working on google calendars this week and that would be very useful for me as I am responsible for scheduling in the library, library computer lab, and main computer lab.
